I just had to share this with you all. My 4th grade daughter went to school with her beautiful, white swan Valentine card basket. We used, balloons for shaping, paper mache and card stock, etc. Anyhow, one student told her, "Wow, Amanda! I like your goose!" She said, "it's a swan." The student didn't hear her so he went on to say, "that's a really pretty goose." Another student from another class told her, "Gee, Amanda! I really like your duck!" She said, "it's not a duck, it's a swan." But she's so soft spoken the kid didn't hear her so he went on to ask, "how did you make that duck?" Toward the end of the day, another kid comes up to her and says, "Cool, Amanda! I like your chicken!" At this point she's really losing it and she raises her voice and says, "It's not a chicken, a goose or a duck, IT'S A SWAN!!!" She made us all laugh so hard when she told us her story. I thought it was too cute not to share.

I bet she thought all those kids were just not as bright as she is! What's wrong with them that they can see it's a swan?! I bet it was funny though!!

lol dina, thanks for the cute story.

here's one of my favorite danny kaye songs for your daughter:

There once was an ugly duckling
With feathers all stubby and brown
And the other birds said in so many words
Get out of town
Get out, get out, get out of town
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown
That poor little ugly duckling
Went wandering far and near
But at every place they said to his face
Now get out, get out, get out of here
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
And a very unhappy tear
All through the wintertime he hid himself away
Ashamed to show his face, afraid of what others might say
All through the winter in his lonely clump of wheat
Till a flock of swans spied him there and very soon agreed
You’re a very fine swan indeed!
A swan? Me a swan? Ah, go on!
And he said yes, you’re a swan
Take a look at yourself in the lake and you’ll see
And he looked, and he saw, and he said
I am a swan! Wheeeeeeee!
I’m not such an ugly duckling
No feathers all stubby and brown
For in fact these birds in so many words said
The best in town, the best, the best
The best in town
Not a quack, not a quack, not a waddle or a quack
But a glide and a whistle and a snowy white back
And a head so noble and high
Say who’s an ugly duckling?
Not I!
Not I!

^ Oh how time flies. just the other day we used to have nursery rhymes in the car while driving, now my two like to listen to what they call 'Proper music'We used to sing along 'the ugly duckling' over and over again very loud in the carMy son invented the 'pom pom'(he used to say it at the top of his voice and we were not allowed to join in . this was his bit) after each 'get out"

That is so cute, I'm very soft spoken too (and was as a child) so I totally understand where you daughter is coming from. What a sweet story, thank-you for sharing it with us :)

Thanks for all of your sweet responses.
Thanks for the song Buckytom. Just showed it to my daughter and it gave her a giggle.
