Oh Charlie, I'm so sorry to hear that! Sending prayers for your mom and you and all your family. These kinds of "accidents" that happen to our folks when they get older are so stressful for everyone concerned.

Charlie, as an elderly person, my biggest fear is falling. I don't go out if there is snow or ice. I have seen residents in this building who have fallen. They go to rehab and come back to their apartment to continue to live as they did before. And I am sure your mother will also. There are prayers for her given by your friends here. And we all know that prayers are very powerful. Good Luck.

After my mom went back to the hospital they put her in a different ward, which is much better. And doctors are doing what they supposed to do, however now my mom refuses to do the tests. I do not know how to convince her she is so, grrr, strong will, no wonder I am so stuborn.

Charlie, find out what the tests are for. If she is in a teaching hospital, they will often order tests to teach. The tests may have nothing to directly do with her present ailment. Find out:
what is the test for
is it painful
can they medicate her for calmness
how long is the test
how does the test relate to what ails her
I have a test that is done every six months. It is to see what the clot in my neck is dong. Has it grown, do I need surgery? It takes about three hours. With my spine and hip the way it is, laying on that table finds me in excruciating pain. So now when I go next Thursday, they will give me a tranquilizer about twenty minutes before they start. And they have changed the table to a bed. For the same reason, when I have the MRI done once a year, because it is so long, they break it down now to two 45 minutes and give me a chance to get up and move around. Then when I get back on the table, they changed my position and give me a pillow. Again, they give me a mild tranquilizer. It really helps.
Sometimes the doctors have never seen the tests done. All they know is what the results show on the report that they get back from the technician and the doctor who is a specialist in that area of medicine and is in charge of that test. You have to be your mothers advocate. See if they can stretch out the tests over several days She will need a break in between. Can some of the tests be done as an outpatient. If after talking to the doctors and getting the answers you want, then blackmail your mother, if you feel the test are really necessary. If she doesn't agree to have the test, you won't be coming in anymore to see her. Just kidding!!
Her stubbornness may be coming from lab tests that are done at least twice a day and involves drawing blood. If that is the case, find out if it is really necessary to do them that often.
I have been in and out several times last year. I too got stubborn and refused to listen to them after they told me I could go home. My final lab reports came back after I was all dressed and packed up. So off to home I went. The next day my heart was racing and I knew I was in trouble. Back to the hospital. They wanted to give me a transfusion of one pint of blood the day before. Now due to my stubbornness I needed three pints and at the speed of the drip, I was there overnight. I didn't have enough blood in my system and my heart was trying to work overtime pumping blood that wasn't there. Thanks to my own stupidity and stubbornness.

Oh, Charlie, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I know how frustrating it is when the patient is your parent and is refusing tests. Without having power-of-attorney, it is really hard to go against her wishes. I hope that the doctor or someone can help her understand why they want to run the tests. Prayers and thoughts with you.
