All I can remember is this show used to air a couple years ago in the wee small hours of the morning right after an Anthony Bourdain show. It was a travelogue, hosted by an old British guy, basically following a given ingredient from the ground to the plate.

The specific episode I can remember was on vanilla: he went from the plantation, in search of an old woman running the whole distribution business on the island, spent an afternoon with a couple and the wife made a dessert of papaya baked with sugar and vanilla, and topped with vanilla ice cream... It's going to drive me COMPLETELY insane if I can't find the name of the host or the show.

I think it was called Follow That Food with Gordon Elliot. It is still on the Food Network sometime during the day.

Definitely NOT Gordon Elliot. This gentleman had seen 60 and kept on going.

Not Floyd either. I know the production side of television, and this was definitely not shot in the 80s, or by the BBC. Mid-90s at the absolute earliest for a production date, and looking much more recent than that.

I want to say "Grocer" was somewhere in the title, I'm just not certain.
