to celebrate the death of terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and the showing of the huge, gilt-framed photos of him..
how many of the following post-life public-relations instances can you identify ?
1. It happened near Sailes, Louisiana, on may 23, 1934. Once they were dead, Federal Agents showed off their bodies to the public- still in their bullet-riddled car. Who were they?
2. On july 22, 1934, he went to a movie called "Manhattan Melodrama" at a Chicago theater; bad choice. Police circulated photos of his dead self to persuade a skeptical public.
Who was he ?
3. they didn't have cameras in 1535, but they did have the London Bridge, which was where the heads of the recently beheaded were displayed to cheer the public. What famous man, beloved by his own king, was so displayed that year?
4 When this physician was executed in Bolivia in 1967, his executioners spared his face- and later made sure that a photo of his dead self was made widely available. Who was he ?
(hint; a photo of his living self has been called the "most famous photo of the decade".)
5. His name was maybe William h. Bonney, or maybe it was Henry McCarty, and he was a bad guy. When sheriff Patrick Garrett finally killed him, he made sure everyone knew by publishing a best-seller about the deed the following year. By what name does the world know Mr. McCarty ?
6. By the late 1800's, when you killed a bad guy, you made sure somebody took photos of his riddled remains. One especially bad gang caused trouble into the late 1890's. Among it's members were ol' Yantis, Little Dick West, Bill Doolin, and Bill Dalton, and when they fell, lawmen made sure their images were circulated around.
Some people called these guys the Doolin-Dalton gang, but the gang had another name- which graced a Sam Peckinpah movie later; what was the movie's title ?
7. It wasn't quite a "Public" execution,, but it was close. Nearly 100 people were there for it live, and another 300 watched it via closed-circuit TV. It was the first federal execution since 1963. Who was put to death ?
