Awful news. They unnerve you badly if you're around when they happen. I was in Pamplona one year, to see the 'running of the bulls', and the whole thing was distrupted by an ETA terrist attack. When I worked for the Italian Consulate in Manchester UK, it was an era when terrorist attacks threatened those working in the Italian diplomatic services, and terrorists blew up Bologna station.
