Debuting in 1966, Dark Shadows was unlike any other soap opera ever created, with themes and characters concerning ghosts, witches, and assorted monsters.
It wasn't until the 409th episode, however, that the lead
character of Barnabas Collins-a living dead man-was referred to in the
script as a "vampire." The series ran for 1,225 shows.
