TRUTH !!
Goodyear was imprisoned for debt twice, spending his savings to find a way to prevent rubber from melting in summer and becoming brittle in winter. In 1834, while in debtor's prison, Goodyear began experiments introducing various powders
to rubber.
In 1839, while surviving on charity, he stumbled on the additive that would lead to vulcanized rubber. Despite patenting the process, Goodyear died $200,000 in debt. Six of his children would reap the rewards of the patent, but another six died of malnutrition.
