The expression's origins go back to 1741, when the Woolwich Arsenal converted one of it's workshop buildings to house Britain's new Royal Military Academy. For that reason, the RMA was often referred to as "the Shop", and any military strategy discussion among students and grads was called, "talking shop".

I did especially poorly today. I only got #s 1, 6, and 8. I should have gotten #s 2 and 3. I never saw "Airheads" or "Pulp Fiction" so I don't feel bad not knowing those two.
