Published in New York, the National Inquirer was a small rag that reported on
thoroughbred racing. Then, in 1952, Italian publisher Generoso Pope Jr. bought the paper
and immediately changed the content of the paper to bizarre and grisly ("I ate my Baby").
The magazine's national weekly circulation quickly rose into the millions.
