Due to my job I don't get to take long vacations in the summer, but I plan several weekend excursions to have some fun.

My first trip is to a NASCAR race at Infineon Raceway to see a Nextel Cup race on June 25th. I cannot wait and I am so excited. I have never been to a NASCAR race before. The best thing is that I am going with some really good friends that I went to college with.

I also attend a couple of crafts faires and music festivals locally. Recently, I bought I book on hikes in the National Forests that surround where I live. As soon as the snow melts I plan on hiking some of the trails. In my job I don't get much of a chance to sightsee in the forest just work.

So, what do you like to do for your summer time fun?

Anything that gets me out of the city LOL. I am an equestrian, so I go to see a lot of equestrian competition...racing, polo, shows, events etc...as a spectator now not a competitor, although I am taking my neices to some shows and competitions this summer.

Also, my husband is a jazz musician, so we go to a lot of outdoor festivals through out the summer months. I guess we socialise more out of London through summer, we always spend a couple of days at Oxford University events and lots of parties. And weddings. It sems that ever second weekend these days is weddings.

Well, in a few weeks we leave on an Alaskan cruise. Paul's parents bought the whole family tickets. There will be 12 of us going. We've always wanted to see Alaska so we are pretty dang excited.

That's the only big trip we have planned for this summer.
We will do lots of weekend hiking and camping though and have at least
one trip to a friends cabin on the coast planned.

Oh, I would love to go to one myself!! I would want to take MIL's travel trailer and spend the whole weekend though. Watch the trucks on Friday, Busch on Saturday and then the big Nextel on Sunday, maybe leave on Monday, to stay out of the traffic. That would be so much fun!!!!!

We don't do much. Normally, we go out on the lake every weekend and go fishing, but, with it being down, we can't get the boat out. If I still had my pool, I would be spending it there. We have our family reunion in July, so, that is a weekend that I look forward to. This year, my only cousin get's to come down with her 2 boys, I've only seen the oldest, who is 4 now, once. The youngest is now 1. Her and her family and my aunt, live in Spokane, Washington. We get to see my aunt once a year, so, this is a very special one this year!!

On a hot, sunny beautiful summer day here in Hawaii, I like to pack a big lunch and head on down to my favorite beach. I'll set everything down under a shade tree, grab my floater and jump into the clear, blue water and just float all morning. Have lunch, and back to floating. That's life. If I have a bunch of family to enjoy it with me.................Oh Yea! This is where you'll find me on a hot summer's day.

We try to spend a couple of weeks in Greece (islands, preferably!) or in Italy. Earlier this year we visited Portugal. We haven't made any firm plans for the summer yet, but are seriously thinking about another trip to Corfu.

In September, we're due to re-visit Portugal. And we also like to spend long weekends in the highlands of Scotland. We have 2 weddings - one in Dunblane and another in Perth.

Also Wimbledon!

I would also like to go for the whole weekend. We tried to go to Las Vegas this last Spring, but could not get it worked out. But it was a good thing we did not go because the weather was not the greatest.

Amusement Parks. Okay one... Cedar Point !!
Go to the Zoo.
Go camping.
Just hang out in the park.
Go to drag races. Won't be the same without dad though (

I'm jealous Wasabi! One day we'll get to go to Hawaii.

We usually take a two week summer vacation. We leave next Saturday to Virginia and Washington, D.C. with the kids. We'll stop by the beach and South Carolina on the way back. We love the driving since we get to sight see while traveling through different states. Other than the vacation, we hit the pool and walk every afternoon to keep the weight off. This summer, my son will do a football camp and my daughter will do an art camp. They're excited!

middie, I have not been camping for ages. When I was a kid my family used to go camping alot during the summer. My brother and I used to also campout in our backyard with our sleeping bags, especially on nights that there was a meteor shower. I really miss that. We used to have lots of fun.

sc, the meteors didn't mind you looking? :)

i love watching the perseids. nothin' better on a hot, starry, august night.

ok, well, a few things are better, but one of you gets to look up at the stars...

I really wish we could go to Sardinia again, though the forecast doesn't look very good as Cris is loaded with too much work...:( (Here are some of the images I took last year...)

There is Ostia, stretch of a beach easily accessible from Rome, but after being spoiled by the crystal clear water of Sardinia... ehm...:ermm: it doesn't look quite appealing...

Maybe for a consolation we may go to the south of Napoli (the area of Salerno) for a bit of camping, as the water there is much better down there.

In Sardinia 3 years ago I learned to snorkel offshore (which is really a quantum leap for me, I could never even consider going into a deep end where I can't stand up and leave my head above the water before!!), I would like somehow to keep up with my newly acquired summertime hobby!!

Bucky I do that every year as long as the weather aloows me too. Nothing worse then looking forward to it all summer and it rains the whole time.
Grrrrrrrr

Yeah, Wasabi -- but that isn't a summer activity, it is almost year-round!!! One year I caught the flu, and was sick through the holidays. When I recovered (15 lbs thinner, I might add) I packed my bikini and we did an impromptu new years day/night on the beach.

Here in the land of four seasons, favorite summer activities include sitting on our porch or those of neighbors, sipping wine; walking around town; putzing in the garden. Towards the end of summer it will be chowing down on great tomatoes. I went "camping" for three years, so it has lost all glamour, and after Hawaii, then owning my own pool for 6 years, swimming just isn't the fun it used to be. Sometimes you just get too spoiled, and when it comes to water, I am.

We do mostly day trips and weekends in the summer. We had a picnic in Rockport, MA over the holiday weekend at a state park on the ocean. We both really enjoyed that.

We try to go to a couple of BBQ or chili festivals in our area. There's a good one in Vermont in July at the Harpoon Brewery.

We'll be entertaining our 12 year-old granddaughter for a couple of weeks so there's probably a couple of day trips/movies/shopping trips there as well.

I'm trying to convince SO that we should drive to Quebec or Montreal some time.

PeppA keeps talking about going to Cedar Point. She's been talking about it for years. I don't know when/if we'll ever go.

Personally, I like to go to the local swimming hole, with my water-proof metal detector, and try to find some lost jewelry.
