This is probably a dumb question, but I am not very technical as far as computers go.

I have a laptop, high-speed internet access through cable, a modem, and a wireless router.

I can use my laptop without the power cord plugged in.

In a lightening storm, if I unplug the power chord to my laptop, and there is a power surge (or whatever you call it when lightening strikes), will my laptop be safe?

Or do I have to unplug the modem and the router, too? Do I have to turn off my laptop, or can I continue using it in a storm?

The modem and router could get fried by the lightning strike. Turn them all off or install a surge protector - you can get extension plug bars that include surge protection.

Okay, thanks miniman and pacanis! You both confirmed what I thought.
