Strawberry DO Cobbler

Ingredients

5 cups frozen strawberries (packed in sugar)
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans -- optional
2 sticks melted butter -- (1 cup)

Crust
1.5 boxes white or yellow cake mix OR 3 premade pie crusts.

Procedure

Prepare a 12" DO by preheating and lightly oiling. Slice 1 stick butter into DO, making sure butter melts and covers bottom. Add strawberries to a sauce pan with 1 cup sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and almond extract.
Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Add to DO as follows:
1. If using premade pie crusts, place 1 crust on bottom, add 1/2 of fruit, another crust cut and laid in strips, add the other fruit and the last crust on top, slice remaining butter stick, sprinkle with sugar, cinammon and sprinkle pecans (if desired) over top. OR
2. Spread 1.5 cake mix over strawberries, slice final butter stick over top, sprinkle with cinamon and Sprinkle pecans (if desired) over the top.
Bake at 325-350 (18 Kingsford briquettes on top and 9 on bottom) for about 40-45 minutes until brown. Rotate the oven 3x about 1/4 turn ea. as it cooks. Resist the urge to lift the top until done.
The banana pudding is simply Jello Brand instant banana pudding as directed, bananas, and 'Nilla wafers and placed in an ice chest to firm up.
