This week on the dinner list is Mushroom Barley soup.

Ive been making it for years. I usually try to do something similar to the Ratners ( from NYC) Recipe ( if anyone is familiar with that).

This time I want to do something a little different, im just not sure what yet. When I go shopping I may get a few ideas as i walk up and down the aisles, But, I was wondering if anyone throws something unique or different in their recipe, just to throw a little twist into the typical mushroom barley soup.

Im vegetarian ( for those who dont know) , and I have no problems converting a recipe with meat to a veg recipe, I just dont want the ingredient that throws a twist in it to be something meat related.

All ideas welcome,

Thanks in advance,

larry

OK I am not really the one to ask because I do not like most mushrooms, BUT as I was reading your post I thought I saw the word "figs" in your post. I did not, but because I was thinking of it I pictured figs in your soup and something about it made me want to try it. It might be completely disgusting, but something tells me it could be good.
