I was trying to find out what's "shortening", & so landed in this site. Umm.. still in search of "shortening"... but think will make this post first.

Shortening is a type of fat. It is solid at room temperature.

Welcome threeangelsmum. You will find tons or recipes here that you'll want to experiment with. Whenever a recipe asks for shortening I always use Crisco.
