I gave up Corporate America in 2001 and opened a Food business: conserves, pickles, chutneys, jellies - you name it, I bottled it.
I also followed my passion for cooking and started giving courses, classes, doing lunches, doing events, and so on. The biggest event (so far) was a Gala Dinner for 170. A tough one!!
I absolutely adore vegetables ( although I´m not a vegetarian) and will eat any vegetable/fruit you can throw my way.
I´m also a specialist in Indian food; just love the way Indian cooks manage spices. I´ll cook anything at hand, mind you!
I´m looking forward to sharing with you on this forum

Welcome to the forum! You sound like you have food interests like mine - not a vegetarian, but I am frequently cooking without meats (especially when harvesting more than I can use!), and I love spices - Mexican, Thai, Szechwan, and Indian foods top my list! An Indian lady I know told me I have more spices than she has seen in any of her friend's kitchens. Looking forward to hearing about your foods!

Welcome! I'd love to hear about your chutneys. I haven't found any that I can fit into my foods. I'm a northerner in the US, and we didn't have them usually growing up. I'm not sure how to use them as they are usually paired with meat. I was reading about them today and some places say they are used like a jam but they are more sour. In india they are used with fermented steamed bread like foods. This seems like a great idea to me. I love tangy flavors. We eat completely whole foods plant based, nearly completely vegan but no processed vegan foods. Tell us about the chutneys.

Welcome to Discuss Cooking karadekoolaid. You wrote that you gave up "Corporate America". Does that mean you are from the US and emigrated to Caracas?

Heard about some problems down there since Chavez died. Hope you are safe. I remember food was an issue, hope it wasn't for you.

Honestly, I would be more interested in Venezuelan cooking than Indian. Seems each country in South America has its own specialties. I think it is a bit more diverse than state to state up here.

taxlady: no, I´m English - my wife´s Venezuelan. I used to work in multi-nationals in HR, but just got tired of it (Exxon, Verizon, Philip Morris..)!
Termy: plenty of food available here - the problem is the "government". Still, I´m not interested in politics - just food! I´ll try to dig up some Venezuelan recipes so you guys can try them out.
