hi a friend told me about this site. she said it's like it's the most important ingredient in her locker. she's not mad but she does have a patch over one eye. i don't know if anyone can help, but i've got a house full coming in a week from now. me and my husband are born again jews (yes we do exist and i've heard all the jokes about us a 100 times) and my husbands parrents are descending on us for the weekend. i want to make a special meal for next sunday and included in my shopping list is kosher bacon, the thicker cut preferably. i've only had kosher bacon once at a friends house but can't seem to find it any where, myself.

if anyone can help i'd be very grateful

Welcome to the site and Happy New Year!

I am Jewish as well, but have never heard of anything billed as kosher bacon. I supposed turkey bacon would probably be what you are looking for.

Shalom I am also Jewish and have never heard of Kosher Bacon, If I would ask my rabbi he would escort me out of temple. Just fix a nice brisket with horse radish sauce and plenty of root veggies Parsnips rutabaga carrots and a good Kosher wine
Not Mogan David !!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is terrible stuff and a good Kuggle to go with
La Shana Tova

shalom dave. i must say you've all been very helpful and kind. this really was my last resort and as i say you all come so highly recommended.
after drawing yet another blank i confronted my friend (so called) and asked exactly where this kosher bacon had been purchased. to my horror she explained it wasn't kosher, she had actually forgotten i was Jewish and tried passing it off as kosher! worse still went on to admit she has regularly been feeding my two youngest children, ben and Jacob ham sandwiches.!! i was so distraught i have to confess i made a lunge for this person ( i have known 11 years) and quite a fight ensued. it wasn't at all lady like.
i feel quite appalled by this whole episode and as i dare not tell my husband, it has left me feeling very alone

Oy veih, Mary! That mashugana friend of yours must have left you totally ferklempt!

There is such a thing as Kosher "Bacon" - it's made from soybean derivatives, according to a friend of mine. She said she found it in Brooklyn but hasn't seen it here in Texas - and she doesn't remember the brand name, but it was marked kosher and she got it from a kosher market. Evelyn also said she didn't like it!

I agree with our good friend Michael in FtW- soybean "bacon" is best left where it is in the store, Kosher or not. Surely there is something else one can have with eggs and pancakes.

Welcome to DC, Mary.

WOW! :furious: What a HORRIBLE thing this "friend" did to you, and to continue confessing to what she's been doing to your children. I hope you crossed her off your list of "friends". And for her to "attempt to pass it off as kosher" is an admission that she actually DID know you were Jewish....that was a conscious attempt to FOOL you. There is absolutely no excuse for her doing this to you. This is nothing short of having blatant disregard for you and your family. Shame, shame on her.:furious: :furious:

How sad, too, that you feel alone in all this. For whatever reason you don't feel you can share this with your husband, this is something which is quite serious and IMHO, something that should be shared with him. Again, MHO. You shouldn't have to go thru this alone. Please consider doing this.

You may be new to this board, but I can assure you, you are NOT alone here.

Well I hope you poked her in her good eye!

So, is it brie then? Would that be with the rind on or off?
