How to preserve vinegar mother?

I have just made my first apple cider vinegar and I'm wondering how to preserve the mother, so that I will have it to use at a later time?

I would guess you don't have to do anything. Just leave it in the bottle.

I seem to recall reading there's a trick to preserving the mother. Don't remember what it was. You might want to google. Let us know if you have any luck making wine vinegar.
