Best avocado tools?

Hi all,

I'm currently doing research on the best tools to dissect an avocado or any other way to enjoy them. What do you all recommend for a useful gadget or tool? And do you think it's worth it for its price?

I have something like the pic below for 10 - 20 years, but I go to a knife and large metal spoon every time.

Knife to cut in 1/2 and removed the pit
Large spoon to scoop out each half
Knife to cut avocado in to desired shapes and sizes

Whole process takes about 1 minute ( at the very most)
***Would probably take 5 X that time to find the avocado tool***

Maybe I used the avocado tool 3 times in 20 years.

the emergency room crowd has named the affliction:
avocado hand

the wound people inflict on their palms while cutting a avocado free from the pit.

once twisted and pit removed, there is no tool superior to a plain old soup spoon to scoop it out of the skin.

so - come up with a design to cut the avocado in half - pole to pole - without releasing a lot of blood from the palm.

The only tool you need is a sharp knife.
Cut into the avocado horizontally, until you feel the pit.
Move the avocado around the knife and separate the two halves.
Whack the knife into the pit and pull it free.
Slice the avocado into strips, then remove from the skin.
Easy peasy - 1 tool, no stress

Welcome to the forum!

I'm another one that was given a similar avocado tool ages ago, which I thick I put in a Veteran's box, for things to give them to sell, when cleaning out my Mom's kitchen. I'm another one that takes a utility or santuko knife, cuts around the pit, and separates the halves, then wacks the pit, to twist and removes it. I think I used that tool once, and realized it took longer, so why bother?

I have never owed that tool, nor wanted it. It looks like it takes a lot more effort to wash than a chef's knife and a spoon.

Welcome to DC, marchdesign.

For 60+ years, my family has used a knife and spoon to prep avocados.

I believe that I have tried a separate tool but used it once or twice and discarded it.

Some things just need to be simply and carefully done.

Thing is, when I use avocados I either mash them up or slice them. I never have a need for the wedges that devise creates. Sure I could mash them up too but knife and spoon are good for me.

too much clutter in my " Crap Drawer". for one trick ponies.

I do have some tools or small appliances I use infrequently that I keep in the basement. Ill get them when I need them, but they do more substantial jobs and are necessary. To store something like this in the basement, than go fetch it when I have to cut up an avocado would make no sense ( other than the cardiovascular work out I'd get running up and down the stairs).
