hey gang..i have an electric range, but its the flat kind (smooth glass surface i think) where the heating element is under the glass.

i am wondering if a generic grill pan can be used a) on an electric stove b) on the kind that I have.

do they make special grill pans for stoves like mine?

On a flat top stove, it's important that the grill pan have a flat bottom. Some grillpans have a raised ridge around the bottom that creates a space betweem the pan bottom and the stove top. That would promote poor heating and may not be good for the stove top. Check the stove owner's manual.

I hate to be the one to ask the most obvious question .... what Brand and Model is your stove? Several things will determine what you can use on it. You should have gotten a "User's Manual" with it that will answer questions like this.

the simply calphalon grill pan for $39 got high ratings from America's Test Kitchen and will work fine on your stove.
