I just got a henckels pro s set and they say to use their specific honing rod.
I am also getting an additional set of knives and i dont want to pay for 2 rods, is it ok to use a ceramic rod from a different company on both sets (i want a rod with higher than 66 HRC because my second set may be a miyabi)?
Also, can someone please reccomend a good smooth rod?

Thanks,
Mark

You can absolutely use a different ceramic hone. I highly recommend the superb Idahone ceramics. I have a few of them. They'll work well on all knives, very hard ones included. For knives over 60 RC I also have a glass honing rod from HandAmerican. It's incredible but of no use at all on softer German knives (eg Wusthof, Henckels, etc).

Thanks!

So the ceramic rod will work on the miyabi line (~66HRC) too?
