New to pickling here. My first batch of bread and butter...not so bad. Biggest thing was after I processed them all this extra empty space appeared in the jar. I thought I had them stuffed in there but apparently not. Any advice? Stuff till you can't stuff any more? Thanks.

You definitely underfilled the jar; it´s only half full. Fill the jar with the pickles up to about 1/2" from the top. Fill with vinegr mix, seal the jar and shake, or bang on the kitchen counter. That will release any air bubbles. If necessary, re-open the jar and add a bit more hot vinegar.

It doesn't look bad enough to do them over. They'll be fine. I've found that putting cucumber spears into the jar, you can really squeeze them all in, going the same direction, up and down, then at the end, put a few slices on top to fill it. They go in very tightly. I prefer a wide mouth pint for pickle spears.
