    Scottish, but in the US for 40 years and now in Seattle. I'm a writer by trade, which only sounds impressive: I take engineering Chinglish like: "Dead cell is the cell no go through end to end face," and translate it. I'm a recent Chowhound refugee (bloody idiot owners!).

    But given the site, the relevant part is that cooking is my obsession. I smoke salmon, make cheese, make bacon, I make TOFU feh gawdsake. I've taught Thai cooking to Thai natives (scared the crap out of me, and we had not a word in common; we had an absolute ball). After storms here on Puget Sound, I harvest kelp to make my own kombu.

    I think I have lots to offer the site, but in return I also have endless questions.

    (And the "outRIAAge?" The RIAA is the Recording Industry Association of America, and outRIAAge is my old Napster "handle." It somehow metastasized into my standard online name.)
    Cosmology, non-fiction, and music: by which I mean almost anything that has never been on "American Idol."
