Shrimp Base

I have a recipe for Shrimp-Corn Chowder and it calls for a Shrimp base.
What are the ingredients for that Shrimp Base and can I make it myself.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance: Karall

sounds like it calls for shrimp stock?? if you have shells you can make your own...but u might be better off with store bought.

it drives me nuts cause none of the stores here sell shrimp or seafood stock at all..just the generic beef or chicken stock.

Bases are super concentrated stocks that are reduced down to a thick paste - sort of like a bouillon cube. Often, a teaspoon of base and a cup of water will give you normal strength stock. You can find them at penzeys.com.

A "base" is usually highly concentrated stock, more of a paste, actually. It usually has salt added, and maybe other seasonings.

Maybe you could post your recipe, and we can help you?

I make my own stocks, from scratch. I love cooking with it, as my homemade stocks are usually two to three times more flavorful than the store-bought broth.
