My wife went to pick up bagels the other day, and noticed the soup of the day was oatmeal soup. I never heard of this before. Has anyone ever tried it, and is it worth making ??

There are many variations on this soup. I would assume it would be pretty good, the oats acting like barley. We all need to eat our oats! :chef:

Hmmmm....sounds like something worth trying. I wouldn't use instant oats as the recipe suggests, though. I can't get steel-cut oats, but regular rolled oats should work.

Pappy's Oatmeal Soup

1 cup oatmeal (not instant oats)
1 tsp salt
dash of pepper
1/8 tsp nutmeg
Pour enough bacon drippings into 2 quart saucepan to coat bottom of pan.
Add oatmeal; cook, stirring constantly, until oatmeal is lightly
browned. Add enough boiling water to fill saucepan 1/2 full; add salt,
pepper and nutmeg. Cook for about 10 minutes or until oatmeal is tender,
stirring frequently.
