BBQ sauce, tomato sauce

I found this recipe for a low carb bbq sauce:

• 1 minced onion
• 1 small can of tomato sauce
• 2 cups of water
• 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar(not the one with sugar)
• 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
• pinch paprika
• pinch chili powder
• pinch cinnamon
• 5-6 whole cloves
• salt and pepper to taste

What do they mean with tomato sauce? Can I use a canned tomatoes?

Tomato sauce in the US is merely tomatoes that have been pureed . In some countries, I have read the ketchup is often called tomato sauce. Commercially produced tomato sauce also has seasoning and preservatives and such.. You certainly can use canned tomatoes. Just give them a turn in your food processor until they are smooth.
