There are so many. But one is when my folks hired a baby sitter for my sibs (I'm the oldest) and took me to ... a Chinese restaurant in Wiesbaden, Germany. I can remember that place like it was yesterday. I'm fortunate to have a zillion great food memories. But I was a grown-up that night (I think it might have been my 12th birthday), wearing stockings and heels. The restaurant had this odd, outside staircase up the back of the building, it was on the 2nd floor. No one spoke English (obviously, either German or Chinese!!), and Dad ordered simply by pointing at the menu, and we ate what came.
