Barley Berry Porridge

Inspired by the Chief's Barley for desserts thread.
Thought this might need some added honey but turned out perfect without it.

Added peas to yesterday's leftover creamed corned beef and ate it with couscous. I know the picture isn't great but this is just a variation of sh** on a shingle, after all.

Somewhere on DC I remember seeing CG post
that she de-frosted some Tater Tots,
gave them a bit of a smash and it made
a perfect sub for Hash Browns...

... a little rendered Bacon Fat, a non-stick pan
and I was in heaven!
DH, well, not so much :ermm: Thirty-odd years and only now
he tells me that he really does prefer Home Fries/Country Potatoes/Potatoes O'Brien :glare:
FINE! I'll eat the entire pan myself

Cooking Goddess 03-19-2020 05:36 PM

Glad that you liked them, K-Girl. Like your DH, Himself and I prefer the authentic hash browns. OTOH, when you're desperate for hash browns and tots are the only option, you do what ya gotta do.

And now you reminded me that I forgot to grab a bag of tots my last trip out shopping. Oh, well.

Andy M. 03-19-2020 05:59 PM

I’ve been using tater tots to make hash browns for a while. They’re better than hash brown patties sold in the supermarket.

I agree Andy!
I'll be doing that again real soon and just have two separate pans of Taters,
Her's and His's :chef: I don't mind washing an extra pan :glare:

Haven't had eggs for a while, usually just toast (p/j or banana) sometimes Shreddies with fruit (blueberries, strawberries(no flavour but the price is good) and/or bananas).

So.... several years ago I had a goose egg for breakfast and prayed for oblivion for the rest of the day. I ate no eggs for several years until about a year ago I tried some chicken eggs and I was fine. I could even eat two if I didn't have too often.

This year looking for ways to use up the blown out goose eggs I decided to try an omelet again. Made a beautiful mushroom/asparagus/goose egg omelet.

To be on the safe side I ate only 1/3 of it........ didn't wish for oblivion but was out of commission for the day. So I guess now I know, ..sigh... I'll stick to putting them in baked goods, custard, meringues etc.

I blow them out and put the egg into snack zip lock baggies to freeze. Gave some to my neighbour and a friend, they love them. It's just me
