Cookware potato peel "cure." Feedback?

Matfer recommends frying about 3/4 cups of potato peels in 6 tablespoons of cooking oil and 12 tablespoons of coarse salt over medium heat for about 10 minutes as an initial seasoning for their black steel pans. Has anyone experienced any benefit from such a procedure?
 
I think it is mostly the oil that is going to be doing the seasoning. My mother used season cast iron pans by frying onion with bunch of salt added.
