Asado or Spit roasting

I'm trying to cook a whole animal (suckling pig, goat, or lamb) on a campfire. Aside from the possibility of renting a generator, I'll have no power source. Does anyone know of any resources or techniques I might employ to get this done. I've looked at medium size spits, around 250$, plus the generator cost, and I'm familiar with asados from Uruguay, but have no idea where one could buy something like that or build it. I'll be cooking for a crowd. I thought about the pit technique (imu), but I'd be too worried it wouldn't cook properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
