2016 is shaping up to be a historical year for talented people dying. The latest, Gene Wilder, he of the sad blue eyes and funny movies. Loved him best in "Young Frankenstein". Himself and I fling lines back and forth from that script whenever they fit in.

One last time: Put the candle back.

Gene Wilder later had a film contract where he demanded the same contract terms as in Willy Wonka be included in a real contract. I kid you not.

"Silver Streak." A later Gene Wilder movie with Richard Pryor. He and Pryor are trying to get past baddies at a train station. He goes to the station's mens room and needs to look and act black to walk with Richard Pryor past the bad guys. He's at the men's room mirror smearing black shoe polish on his face, funnily pep talking to himself that he can pass himself off as a cool hip black dude walking with another black dude. "shake it, but don't break it."

Omigosh! That was such a goofy movie. Every stereotype and cliche in the world. Loved the two "dudes" in the train station. Yep, he's definitely gonna fool everyone.

Wilder was so fun and seemed like a really nice guy. Now he's making mayhem with Gilda Radner. What a pair!

He will be sorely missed.
