That should be are instead of ate, and west instead of wast. I posted from my phone and am having a bit of trouble seeing today with an ocular migraine.

Um, what are those?

I've got pork roast in my crock pot right now. I threw together half an envelope of Lipton onion mix and an envelope of Kraft Zesty Italian dressing mix in water and poured it over the pork. I've never done that before, but it smells good.

feel better med!

DH has asked me for just about 30 years to make him
"Tomato Pie"... no clue what that is!
WELL!!
When we went to Detroit to visit with dear niece and her two boys,
we went to this bakery that had Tomato Pie!
So now I know what the heck it's suppose to be like and then we
found this recipe:
Homemade Philadelphia Tomato Pie-Style Pizza Recipe | Serious Eats
and FINALLY gave it a go today, well I made the dough and sauce yesterday and put it all together today!

NAIL IT!! No, REALLY!

Tasty, but I have found since I was much younger, tomato products upset my stomach, so I can only have a just-a-wee-bit ... quite tasty even if I do say so myself :chef:

*Cook's Note: Um, DH ate about 3/4 of that half sheet pan full of Tomato Pie

med, I thought you guys lived on the Lee Island coast, or somewhere just south.

Stone Crab claw season just opened about 2 weeks ago. Man, am I envious!

I went out for drinks and appetizers with a customer. We went to a place in old downtown Kirkland, WA. Had some really good calamari, some okay steak bites, and some fantastic wings. The sauce on the wings was awesome. There were some asian flavors to it, and some mild heat, and some sweetness. I need to try to replicate it.

Those ARE pretty, med! :yum: Whereabouts did Craig buy them? We'll be on Fort Myers Beach in less than two weeks. Looks like something easy for a lazy laying-about-the-resort kind of supper.

Made two dinners tonight. The meal du jour was a beef burgundy (really merlot) pot roast with carrots, baby potatoes, shallots, and mushrooms. Served that up with some sturdy bread and salads.

You say "Tomato Pie", but all I see is a Sicilian pizza, or "sfincione". Is that what your DH calls "Tomato Pie"? In my mind, it should be a tomato pie, like chef Vivian Howard makes.

Whatever makes him happy, though - it doesn't matter what he calls it. ;)

I had the same thought [emoji2]

We're at an Extended Stay America in Monroeville, PA. The room is huge! It has a kitchenette, and a separate sitting room and they accept pets, all for a reasonable price. We're going to remember this place for future trips.

After we settled in, DH went to get takeout from Olive Garden. I got chicken and gnocchi soup, salad and bread sticks, and DH got chicken Parmesan with spaghetti and a salad. We ate late, so it was nice being able to kick back and eat comfortably in the room.

We'll be home tonight! Can't wait!

RR - yes, they are stone crab claws.

BT - Nope, we live on east coast. Craig travels for work, up to Cape Canaveral for this coast, and up north of Port Charlotte on the west. DD and family live on west coast.

CG - Grimm's at Crabsr.us and they do ship too. They have their own boats and go out just about every day weather permitting. The dock is just behind and partly inside the retail store (which really isn't much, just a counter and fridge/freezer units). Just make sure you call and tell them you are coming so you don't get there and they don't have any left. We've never had a bad batch from there, always cooked to perfection. Never tried their mustard sauce so can't comment on that. We always make our own from supposedly Joe's Stone Crabs recipe per the Miami Herald many, many, many years ago. Bumpy gravel driveway to get there unless they've paved since I was last there (Craig usually goes). They are south of Naples, around Everglades City. Nice little drive, you can take a drive through Fakahatchee Preserve if you're into that kind of thing. Apparently there are tours too. In fact, from the map, there are several tour companies located around Grimm's.

Oh, regardless of where you get them, buy mediums ($15/lb yesterday). Once you start to get into the large, and especially the jumbo, you are paying more and more for shell weight as it gets thicker (and bigger obviously) the larger the claw. The large and jumbo look impressive on a plate, but that's about it, harder to crack too. Craig uses a big metal meat tenderizer hammer, the flat side.

Mmmm. Stone crab claws. Haven't had them for years.

We'd get the claws when we stayed on Marco Island when I was in college.

I've never had the pleasure of Stone crab claws or any crab other than west coast Dungeness crabs and Alaska King crab.. Would love to try crabs from the east coast..

If you are seriously interested in going to pick some up, I'll tell you both ways to get there. One is from I-75 (Alligator Alley section) and the other is straight down US41 (Tamiami Trail). Karen was referring to Janes Scenic Drive through the Fakahatchee Strand area of the Everglades.

Thanks, Craig, but I already checked them out on Google maps. It looks like going down the interstate would be about 68 miles, ten miles less if we go down U.S. Route 41. I did see the skinny line for the James Scenic Highway. Mmm, close encounter of the 'gator kind along that route? We'd stick to the main roads, mostly because we can probably make better time.
