This recipe calls for 2 bags of popcorn. I have a jar of seeds. Any suggestions for how to measure out the right amount?

Anyone else think the new site design is a bit much? Oh crap, it doesn't let me create shortcuts anymore.

Sometimes you just need to find a better recipe. Not all recipe writers are equally talented. Here's one that provides an actual quantity: https://3boysandadog.com/candied-popcorn-recipe/

What do you mean by creating shortcuts? If something seems to be missing, ask about it in the forum update thread. It might have been moved or renamed.

That recipe looks essentially the same ingredient wise except it seems to want to create 3 flavors per batch. I think it means "light" corn syrup though.

I mean I can't create shortcut from my browser to my desktop for easy access. It's an app now just like the biology forum I'm in. I hate site apps.

What do you mean by “shortcut“?

You asked how much popcorn to measure out. The recipe I posted specifies the amount.

You don't have to use the app. Delete it and you can access the site from your browser.

I didn't download the app. I am using my browser. With YouTube and other common sites my Chrome browser menu gives the option of, "add to home screen" which gives me a shortcut to the exact address. With this site now "install app" is taking its place. Shortcut isn't an option anymore.

I don't use Chrome, so I am not familiar with that. But, if you want to have a link to a specific thread, or even to a specific post, you can copy the link from the "share icon" at the top right of each post. If you want the thread, go to the first post. If you want a specific post, get the URL from there. Here's a screenshot of the link to your post that I am quoting. You can bookmark the link.

I don't seem to have a share opinion.

I tried the 3boysandadog recipe. The candy mix was very thick even though it started burning to sauce pan. It was sandy with sugar and the volume was maybe greater than the popcorn. I think it should be much thinner so it can be drizzled on the popcorn and rolled around with a spatula? It was still rather wet after baking.

On a laptop, with the browser window open to your Google main window, you can add a shortcut for DC if you are reading it from a browser window. I don't know what you see there when you open a window, but my page allows me to have up to eight shortcuts. Click on one of the circles that says "Add shortcut", copy the address https://www.discusscooking.com/, and paste that into the URL line. You can show "Discuss Cooking" as the page Name, or call in anything you want! If any of this sounds like gibberish, I'm sorry. I'm more fluent in Culinary than I am in Tech.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a way to add a shortcut to a mobile device. It looks like it's "Install app" or nothing. I suppose you could add it to your "Favorites", but that really doesn't save any time or effort.

Any suggestions for the threeboysandadog recipe?

  • 3 cups of popped popcorn
  • 3 T butter
  • 1 cups of sugar
  • 1 small box of red Jell-O
  • 1 T of white corn syrup
  • 1 T water, as needed.
I reduced to 1/3 since I only wanted to do one color. Are my proportions right?

I just found this. Hope it helps.

1/4 cup Popcorn Kernels = approximately 7 cups of popped popcorn
1/3 cup Popcorn Kernels = approximately 10 cups of popped popcorn
1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels = approximately 15 cups of popped popcorn

(For comparison purposes 1 regular-sized bag of Microwave popcorn yields approximately 4.5 cups of popped popcorn.)

I'm content with 3 cups of popped popcorn. I am more concerned with the proportions of the candy ingredients in relation to 3 cups of popped popcorn.
