King Arthur Flour is having a national contest for breadmakers. The grand prize is $2000 plus a trip to their Vermont location for a class. See the details at http://www.kingarth urflour.com/ events/2009nfob. html Good luck!!

Joe, I think this is right up your alley or as the Brits say, "right you your street."

Thanks for your confidence, but with only 10 months of bread baking under my belt, I'm still trying to pay attention to other people's recipes, much less create my own. As I said in my PM, I hope to enter my first bread competition in August 2009 at out local County Fair. I'll have 18 months of bread baking by that time, and should have something worthwhile to enter.

I AM getting good at braiding bread. I braided a basic white bread as well as the Challah I made for one of my customers for Thanksgiving.

You have excelled at braiding. I may have to come and watch you one day. By any chanced are you a lefty, too?

WOW JOE!!!

Susan, I would be a disgrace to that contest, I just had to comment on Joe's tasty looking and model worthy bread!

Can I have a couple slices to make a sandwich? Nice to see someone else with an oblong baker. Did you get that from Breadtopia? Also, it looks like you may have deflated the loaf a bit with the lengthwise scoring. Do you do that often or did it do it on its own? I just allow mine to split wherever they want to, and almost always get a profile like this...

Bread Shapes

I had not baked the bread since last year. AND did not check complete details. AND I dropped the loaf unside down. Error. Still super.

I am mixing another tonight and follow complete directions...see what happens. May have a different shape.

What pan do you use to bake your bread? I have two crock pots (ceramic) and to get a different shape I use different pot liner. Even with odd shapes...we can still make sandwiches. This is the BEST recipe. Have been making bread (sold it too and shipped) for years. Nothing this simple and it always looks and tastes great.

Baking with yeast is my favorite. Did you enter the King Arthur Contest? I did...hey just for fun. Sent one of my original bread recipes I mix in
my food processor. Aria

:( too bad. that contest is just for home bakers... that would be a neat trip! Years ago, before I was in the business, I won 2nd prize in a Baking with Hellman's Mayonnaise contest. I got my first microwave oven as a prize.

If you feel creative, and like to bake bread, I recommend giving it a try.
