I came up with the idea to have a monthly cooking theme for the next year. Every week I'll cook a meal based on the theme. My first month is Febrouxary. Yes, a roux based meal every week (I am really proud of this pun). Anyone have suggestions on each month through January? I'm trying to theme it to either the name (as I did for Febrouxary) or something about that month.

Thanks for the suggestions!

hi, well i racked my brain and can't come up with any pun-ish type themes for you. Febrouxary, is pretty cute.
My family used to meet (bunch of families) and have a Chinese Food Feast and we'd each (family) make a dish to share. We'd learn how to cook and try new things each year. Our themes would be country-themed...ethnic.
I'm thinking that if you are going to base your theme on a special type of cooking method, you could maybe do 52 weeks of the year because there are so many types of cooking....raw foods, soup bases, roasting methods, searing, smoking...lots of choices. Good luck! Sorry, I'm not so clever.

I dare to suggest
March - rabbit based dishes (March Hare)
April - Steamed/poached dishes (April Showers)
May - cook with flowers - Zucchini blossoms/nasturtiums etc.
June - cook something borrowed something blue something old something new
July (Juleye) - cook Rib eye , eye Round, grits with red eye gravy
August (Eggust) - guess what to cook this month
September - Cook on the BBQ using embers
Oxtober - you know what do this month
Newvember - Cook Cajun or NY style meals.
Dscender - Cook foods from Down Under
Johnuary - Hopping John, johnnycakes, jonathan apples,

I think Mike has covered it all! LOL!!! But that sounds like a really fun idea.

I was thinking also of something like movie themes like
April in Paris - all French dishes
The Hunt for Red October - All foods Red (or hunted!)
and so on!

Thanks, Mike, I don't know how far you can go with that, but it is a start. I really like some of yours!

For December, how about DCember, where you cook recipes from this site? Not that you couldn't all year, but it would be the emphasis that month.
