Pork tenderloin with roasted vegetables and a sort of take on a caprese salad with goat cheese instead of mozzarella. I "cheated" and took the basil off my seedlings which can't go out in the pot until next weekend. I'm lucky to live in the cheesiest place in the country ... Mont Chevre IS a...
I wouldn't, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good idea.
I've known of people who go out in the world without a clue as to how to take care of themselves, much less something like take on a new cuisine. And in the home, using their own resources (i.e., stove, pots, utensils, etc.) and food...
What I seem to be doing lately is having email conversations about Mom. She's 81. Dad died a few years ago, and it's become apparent that she can no longer live alone. She's amenable to going to one sibling to live, and that sibling is willing to have her, but others think she should go...
I happened to have a lot of beef and mushrooms. So stroganoff was the answer. This week has been both my husband's and my birthdays, so I've been trying to make every meal special. This was aided by a local restaurant owners' family treating us to a very nice dinner Friday.
We're also finally getting some less-than-miserable weather. Thank heavens. I was hoping to spend my birthday (the 5th) walking around Main Street. Instead I had to wear multiple layers and run from car to building, etc. What a pain. So am glad to have some warming!!
I would also use them in any pasta dish that is sort of pasta primavera. Chopped heart of palm, tomatoes, fresh herbs, a good dose of olive oil, either hot or cold, maybe topped with a few crumbs of parm, feta, or goat cheese.
To me, a huge part of a vacation trip is trying the food. Everywhere we go, we hit a local grocery store, which can be a real revelation in other countries. Even Canada! I know some of you are Canadians, and I was surprised at how different the stores were in Quebec compared to the bordering...
Dawglover, she has a Kong "football" that holds a treat and she just loves it. It's about the only thing that holds up to her chewing. For a 25 pound dog, she really can tear into things. She's never gotten into chewing inappropriate stuff, though, just can destroy most toys in no time flat...
OK, here' one for all you doggie lovers. Many of you old timers (haha) will remember my difficulties with a shelter dog we adopted a few years ago. Rosebud, with the help of some of you, and the advice of a few local trainers, has become a perfectly lovely pet and we adore her and she us...
Past with pesto that's in the freezer from last summer (the pesto that is). I think I have 3 more pesto meals. In the summer I get so sick of pesto I could cry, then with snow and below zero temps I wonder if I'll ever see fresh basil again!
Today was our town's winery's nouveau Beaujolais festival. The wine isn't great, but it is great fun. So we had our big meal at lunch. I've been trying to "eat down" my fridge and freezer to make room for the holidays, so tonight will be leftovers. A stir fry and rice from an earlier meal...
Oh, I did not mean that I never cater to restrictions. I wouldn't dream of using a peanut product without insuring that my guests aren't allergic. I have Muslim and Jewish friends, vegetarians and vegans. I always make sure that there is something for them to eat, or, among my friends...
I don't have children, so am not stuck in the problem of how you get a kid decent nutrition when they won't eat anything. I do remember many, if not most, of my childhood dinners being war zones because of a fussy sis who turned meal times into hell. All she liked was steak and shrimp. Huh...
