In the US it is not an expiry date. It is a best used by date. The product is said to be at its best up until that date. It is not expected that the product is no longer good after that date. There is no reason to believe that you should not use it after that date and every reason to know that...

There is no need to do that with marijuana though, with the possible exception of CBD in which case both the doctor and budtender would already know that that is what the patient needs. CBD is a whole different animal when it comes to pot as medicine, but that is the exception, not the rule.
