Funny thing related - 3 stores in the weekly sales "Advo" (the name the carriers always called them when I was still working) had plastic Adirondack chairs in their ads!

As for burning them, @Uncle Bob, many are pressure treated, which would not be good, especially old ones, with chromium and arsenic. And I definitely wouldn't burn the plastic ones, even as little as I like them. :ROFLMAO:

Good to know. And here I thought arsenic was banned in pressure treated wood in 2003. I suppose some old chairs prior to that could still exist..

You're right, @Uncle Bob, it was a long time ago they stopped using arsenic and chromium in pressure treated wood, and now only use some copper compounds - safer, but still not something you want to be breathing in much of, and like you said, there is still some of that old pressure treated wood around!

So, the other day in the sitting in the yard, resting between garden chores... when I tried to get up - I immediately thought of this Thread!

ANY chair, and I mean ANY chair, where your butt is equal to, or lower than, your knees - is difficult to get out of.
That includes a lot of living room easy chairs, couches (or sofa's - whatever you call them) and a plethora of others I cannot even begin to think of.

"C'est n'est pas? ou en quebec jusque "n'est pas?"

You can include getting out of bed in that list - which is why I have a raised mattress!

I forgot about that Phaedra!
Very true, I had a very tall raised bed for quite some time and yes, I miss it. Just had to swing my legs over start to slide and there you were! Standing!

I had to let it go when I moved to the farm. Couldn't get it up the ancient stairs.

dragn - my bed [headboard, footboard, boards at the side, the whole caboodle] came in sections and was put together in my bedroom. [No mattress with it.] The base on which the mattress sits, is slatted and lifts from the bottom end of the bed, with a large storage area under it. Not that I can lift it - that's something I have to get a nice strong man to do, as my duvet/spare blankets/spare pillows/and-various-other-things are stored under it.

I bought an extra deep orthopaedic mattress, and have two 10cm toppers on top of that [Do. Not. Ask.]. So the fitted sheet actually only has to cover the two toppers, making it easier to fit on.

In other words - it's high!

It was the mattress that couldn't go up the stairs. But your bed sound divine! I do need a new one, this mattress is ancient and sags in the middle now. There was a sale last year at Costco and the did NOT have any doubles. Just single, Queen and King.

Do you realize how rare Double beds are now-a-days? Linens for them too, are very scarce.

You should try getting fitted bottom sheets for a Queen size mattress. My bed is made for a Queen size mattress, which sort of sits slightly in it, not on it [sorry, I can't think of how to describe it]. My previous bed, which was a divan base and mattress, came with me from England, and was a double, and so all my bed linen was for a double bed.

New bed [actually complete new suite] needed a new mattress, so I bought a Queen size one to fit the new bed. And none of my fitted bottom sheets fitted it as they were too small. But they don't, or didn't, make fitted sheets for Queen size mattresses. Only King size. Which are just that little bit too big so need tucking under a bit more... but when you turn over the sheet loosens... and I do so hate laying on a crinkly sheet...

But the majority of beds sold here [not including single beds] are Queen size.

Go figure.

Maybe you could try one of those foam mattresses that come all rolled up. Then you unwrap them and they expand to normal size.

You could try looking at RV/Camping supplies places. Double (aka: full-size) beds would not be uncommon. In my RV, we have what is called an RV King. It is the width of a Cal King and the length of a Eastern King...Cal King sheets fit just fine, as long as they have good elastic to pull the extra lenght tight. I found the cutest Martha Stewart (close-out) sheets with little zebras...just perfect with my Scalamandre (red) bedskirt. The sheets are turquoise, but I love color! Sheets link - bed skirt link - so when we camp, it is like safari!! :ROFLMAO:
