It's apple season, which of these are decent for cooking with?

Voila, one of the supermarkets that I buy from online has a special on locally grown apples. It's four pounds of apples. Since I don't have much space in my fridge, I won't be eating those fast enough for them not to go off, unless I cook or bake with them. I just don't get the urge to eat an...

    Soup Ideas?

I was asking about the nonalcoholic beer because it was freebie that showed up with a grocery delivery. I can't really imagine just sitting down to drink nonalcoholic beer. I made that soup for supper last night. I really enjoyed it. Posted a picture in the dinner thread.

    Tuesday, October 1, 2024, what's for dinner?

Happy Anniversary @medtran49 and @CraigC. I made @caseydog's cheese and broccoli soup. I really liked that. It was very moreish. I made 2/3 of the recipe. I only 300 grams of broccoli. I used frozen broccoli and that worked fine. So, I only used 8 US fluid ounces of beer out of a 500 ml can -...

    Tuesday, October 1, 2024, what's for dinner?

Save the stems parsley for stock. They are not a nice texture for eating unless it's in something that gets chopped extremely finely, like in a food processor.

2024 Edition - What are you baking?

Yesterday a friend came over. She helped me make a Swedish Visiting Cake. @vitauta originally mentioned the recipe, back in March 2013. It is a really nice, quick and easy cake. https://www.keyingredient.com/recipes/286608/swedish-visiting-cake/ This is an old picture. I was obviously eager...

Kitchen torches, what do you use?

I really don't like the idea of all the smoke detectors being hard wired. Doesn't that mean that if the power is out, the smoke detectors won't go off? I much prefer our battery operated smoke detectors. I have one on each of three floors. We test them when we change the clocks from daylight...

Sell me on the NY favorite: Chopped Cheese!

I see from the video that they really do chop up already fried burgers. I also see that they chop those up very small. Those long spatulas with straight sides seem to do a good job of that.

So, when I don't break up the meat very well in a spaghetti sauce, you would call it spaghetti with tiny meatballs?

Kitchen torches, what do you use?

That makes sense. Is using the torch to brown your sous-vide cooked food less likely to set off the smoke detector than a broiler?

Sell me on the NY favorite: Chopped Cheese!

I had a little look over at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chopped_cheese That sounds pretty good. I get the impression that the burgers that are chopped up with the cheese are not cooked yet, just burger patties. That might be the way the place that invented them got most of their...

Cheese and broccoli soup it is then. Is this the kind of place that some nonalcoholic beer would work?

    Sunday dinner, September 29, 2024?

I made a Danish recipe which is one variation of "kylling i karry" (chicken in curry). There's chicken breast in cubes, onion, scallions, spinach, some diced apple or pineapple (I used apple), curry powder or paste (I used some vindaloo curry paste), water and bouillon cube (I used some leftover...

    Hurricane Helene roll call please

I figured you probably weren't at the farm yet, but probably somewhere more rural than me. I was living here, in the same house. No fireplace, no gas in the house, no generator, all electric heating.
