BELGIUM / THE NETHERLANDS - Amsterdam ... Where To Eat?

That sounds interesting! I have seen people order french fries on french bread in Belgium. Not sure what it is called. I have since discovered that it is also eaten in Great Britain. There it is called a chip sarnie. Pam

BELGIUM / THE NETHERLANDS - Amsterdam ... Where To Eat?

This post is getting more fun every day! I am not a big patat eater, but my kids like it any way. When ordering from the snack bar they do like the mayo/ peanut sauce combination sprinkled with chopped onions. I think it is called patatje oorlog (frie war) because of the indigestion it...

BELGIUM / THE NETHERLANDS - Amsterdam ... Where To Eat?

Suus, it sounds like you know Amsterdam! We don't eat there often, but when we do it is usually in the Jordaan. The best fries are to be found at 'Manneken Pis' which is on the Damrak! This is according to the newspaper 'Het Parool'. I'm sure all the patat prepared in the Belgian way are...

What do you eat when sitting at the computer?

I almost always have a drink, coffee or water. Sometimes a glass of wine. I occasionally eat in front of the computer, but not often. It can lead to mindless eating, just like eating while reading. Pam

How do you like to drink coffee?

Coffee is very Dutch. They like it strong. Espresso is popular here. We don't have starbucks! It is probably a matter of time as I have heard their European headquarters are in Amsterdam. Does anybody have a Senseo? This is a coffee maker using coffee pads. It is simpler to use than...

    Frito Pie

I rarely ate Fritos when living in The States. Somehow I missed them, lots. My sister is a stewardess for United Airlines. On a flight she met the big Frito's boss. She mentioned me to him. He sent me a gigantic box of fritos!!! Sent all the way here, in the Netherlands! Talk about a...

    Your Best Homemade Salad Dressing

Olive oil, red wine vinegar, a bit of sugar, a bit of mustard, a bit of garlic. Salt and pepper to taste. The oil vinegar ratio is a matter of personal taste. I use 50/50, but it is too sour for my husband. My mother always did 2 parts oil, 1 part vinegar. Pam

    Wok for smooth cooktops

I would hesitate to buy a really heavy wok for a glass top. What if you accidently drop it? I have heard of it happening. I have a flat bottom wok. It is not wonderful. It does not ever get really hot. An electric wok sounds like something I would like to investigate. Wonder if they...
