Using on-hand ingredients to cook basic meals

The seasonings I tend to use the most are garlic powder, red pepper flakes, paprika, salt and pepper. I put these on chicken, fish, vegetables (toss cubed potatoes in olive oil and these spices and bake, yum!), even pizza dough - well except for the paprika, I usually just use that on meats and...

    Cheap meals

I just (re)discovered falafel in a magazine I was reading the other day. We didn't have all the ingredients in the house, but even with what I had they turned out so tasty! It's basically cooked chickpeas (pureed), garlic, parsley, salt, cumin, a little oil of whatever variety, a little bit of...

What is your favorite convenience food shortcut?

I tend to use frozen veggies when I need a quick side dish in a pinch... like peas or corn. Sometimes I buy the "stir-fry" mix to make over rice, just cause I like the baby corn!

    Instant coffee?

I have to drink decaf because I am breastfeeding, but the instant works great if I want to use milk instead of water, then it's like an instant latte. Not too bad tasting I don't think!

I agree, Paula, Rachel, Emeril... bah.. there's something about each of their voices that really irk me... And that's kind of an important part of a cooking show... Do You Know Anything About Gourmet Cheese?

    Splitting Ladyfingers or splitting headache?

I would agree with those that are saying not to split the lady fingers... the recipe I always use does not require them to be split.. and doesn't really make sense to either since you have to soak them in coffee and they get soggy fast... I would up the ratio of cream to cookie if it seems that...
