Pricey brew: $100 bottle of beer on the wall | Business | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

How can you spot the most expensive beers at Spec's today?
Look for the ones in the brown paper sacks.

And if you're looking for Black Friday bargains, these beers might not qualify at nearly $100 per 12.7-ounce bottle.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Sink The Bismarck, two offerings from Scotland's BrewDog that probably have gotten more notice for their stratospheric alcohol levels than they have for their taste, go on sale today at select Spec's stores in Houston and other Texas cities.

This will be the first time these beers — each tucked inside a wrinkled paper sack - have been available here for sale.

The price tag is $79.99 for each Penguin and $95.99 for the Bismarck.
Both beers briefly laid claim to being "world's strongest" during a recent tug of war that drew a lot of attention but left some purists flat.

Ash Rowell, managing director of Houston-based Duff Beer and Wine Distribution, described Penguin as a smoky, peaty imperial stout that weighs in at 32 percent alcohol by volume and Bismarck as an imperial India pale ale with 41 percent.
