2025 - What have you had for lunch/brunch?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

I was a knuckle draggin' nose picker (AD) in a Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC). I never could figure out why they turned the Coral Sea into razor blades and dragged the Midway all the way back here from Japan to become a museum when the Coral Sea was already stateside.

I had a cousin who was a bosun's mate on the Forrestal back in the 60s.

I usually boil or sauté my asparagus. I don't care for roasted, it's OK but not my preference. They are barely cooked when boiled, maybe 3 or 4 minutes depending on size. I would love to try a vertical steamer for them.

I like that idea of microwaving asparagus. I have sautéed it and roasted it. I don't really care for it boiled. It gets soggy.

Don't boil, steam. Steaming doesn't make the asparagus soggy, unless you over-steam it. I used to use a stove-top steamer, but now I use the wet paper towel and microwave method. It is quicker, and heats the asparagus while leaving it with a nice snap.

My mom had a vertical asparagus steamer, and it worked well. I used a steamer basket that came with my pasta pot. I can't tell a difference.

That's what I have done too. I don't remember how it turned out. I didn't do it much because my late husband didn't like asparagus until I started to sauté it and he preferred when I peeled it. Well, I prefer it peeled too, but it's a PITA. I find it a bit too grassy tasting, if I leave all the peel on the asparagus.

Breakfast yesterday was one perfect poached egg (with pat butter, salt and pepper), brown n serve sausages, avocado (splash lime, salt and pepper), and one slice rye toast.

Thanks @caseydog. 😃

Norcia is a town in central Italy , which is famous for producing delicious cured meats and they also make a type of pork sausage (Norcino) which contains less fat and is much tastier than many others. For this recipe, I just took of the skins and chopped up the sausage meat, tossed in EVOO with garlic, until browned, and then I added tomato sauce and slow-cooked it for an hour.
