When a place looks like there's a good chance you'll end up with food poisoning, you tend to not go there. Also, if you are afraid of getting mugged or your car stolen, you tend not to visit that area.

Just like with any large chain, there are good locations, okay locations, and bad locations.

Ain't that the truth.
The best steakhouse in the city had a parking lot in the back of the bldg and you went through a door that lead to the basement, then walked a couple hallways to the restaurant. Back when there weren't cameras.

Two of the best Italian restaurants/bars were in a very rundown part of the city, but at least you could park in the street. Which was typically busy.

I doubt those places are even open anymore.

And I was at either a Waffle House or maybe it was Pancakes America, but that was certainly an experience. We had a large group though. Pink Floyd concert in Pgh and the breakfast place was walking distance from where we all stayed.

Looking back at that, it was the perfect place for someone to say, Be cool honey bunny

I don't have a WH within 20 miles of me, at least. We have one Denny's, and one IHOP, but most breakfast places in Frisco are higher end "cafes."

We have 3 within 30 minutes drive time. I really prefer not to go to one because of the seating layout, seriously close quarters, and the noise. I've never seen a stand alone, they seem to use available spaces and pick their own decor.
Yep, I agree. The noise is aggravating. I'm not crazy about the seating arrangement, either.
The one we went to was not too noisy. We sat at the bar and it was great, no one else sat there but us. We thought about sitting outsude on the patio, but it was 68 outside and windy.

That's one of the things I can't tolerate when eating out at a resteraunt - the noise. It is infuriating when your unable to have a conversation with your wife or husband, girlfriend, boyfriend without having to shout at one another to be heard.

Aside from that - my wife can shout at me at home for free and no tip required :D :D :D

I'd walk in and walk right back out.

I've been naughty and had fried chicken - it was delicious!!

Went to Wai Hee Yong above the Oriental supermarket in Bristol for lunch today.
The combination of the fantastic supermarket and the amazing gluten free offerings in the restaurant upstairs makes it one of my favourite places on earth.

It is totally unpretentious and the menu is enormous. You know it’s doing things right when there are about 30 tables full on a Tuesday lunch time.

The prawn dim sum is sooooo good I ordered some to bring home with me for later 😋
Happy days.

Love Dim Sum.

We had a nice Cantonese restaurant down the road from where I work that I used to occasionally order lunch from and I would always grab a couple of things from the Dim Sum menu. My two favorites were the pork & shrimp shumai (siu mai) and the pea shoot dumplings. It was love at first bite with those.

One day I also ordered the egg custard buns. Holy moly, that was one of the most amazing things I've ever put into my mouth :yum:

My son even talked me into trying the braised chicken feet. Never had it before. It was... interesting. Not horrible, but not something I'd willingly order again. The flavor was good, but it just wasn't enjoyable to eat.

Sadly, they didn't survive Covid. They tried for a good while, offering takeout only, but it wasn't enough to carry the business. I really miss that place. They had a ton of REALLY weird stuff on their menu that I'd probably never try (it was one of those restaurants where you'd walk in to pick up your order and you were the only non-Asian person in the entire place, lol) but some of it I was quite curious about. However, because of Covid, I never got the chance to try any of it. Most of their business came from the Asian community on that side of town and they just weren't interested in takeout food. So they lost almost all of those customers.

Aw that’s really sad. I would have absolutely loved it.
I would have definitely tried every unusual thing on the menu. That would have kept me going back every week until I had eaten everything 😂

Being the only non Asian in the place is always a good sign Don’t you think? 😊
Today though I was surprised there were three other pasty couples in there having a good chow down, but the vast majority were from the large Asian community that lives in Bristol enjoying a bit of lunch.

I know what you mean about chicken feet I had them once in Tibet and they were in a tasty fresh (very hot) sauce but the feet themselves were something and nothing, a lot of nibbling for not a lot in return.

I’m already hankering after some more of that restaurants food 😂

It is definitely a good sign (y)

Exactly! You described my experience with the chicken feet to a "T".

It is sad indeed, that the place closed down. Really good food and such nice people. They always treated me with smiles and kindness.

Have done just that at our local apple bees. Not so much the people, but they have the music turned up way too loud at times.

The Applebees in Frisco closed. I wouldn't know about the noise level, since the food at Applebees is so bad, I only went there once.

A lot of great places went with covid. So disappointing.
My books on where to eat, ‘the good food guide’ etc became almost completely irrelevant because a large portion of the establishments were gone 😔

Large meaty pork belly slices from the butchers, done low n slow then smoked briefly but fiercely at the end with mashed carrot n swede, corn on the cob 🌽 and pictonguy’s lime, chilli and garlic compound butter which was so popular it seems to end up being put on everyones pork belly and mash too! 😂

So thanks for that PG! 😊

I'm glad it was a hit and so simple to make. :D
