I have a Vizio Smart TV (model no. E28h-C1 w/ HDMI) which is not 4k, but 720p (I'll explain below why I mention this). It's an older TV, probably coming up on 10 years old now. 100% of the time (unless I'm watching DVD's) I watch movies on Amazon Prime. However, at the end of this month, my TV will be going out of support for streaming and I'll no longer be able to watch Amazon Prime, unless I buy a streaming device.

Since I'm on Amazon Prime most of the time, I'm thinking of the Fire Stick. But which one do I buy? As I mentioned above, my TV is not 4k, so I don't know that buying the 4k Fire Stick would do any good because it may not work on that TV? But then I've read it should work on non-4k TV's, as long as you use the devices' power adapter and plug it straight into the wall, rather than using a USB connection.

So if anyone knows anything about this, should I spend the money on the 4k Fire Stick? Or should I just get the standard one?

Any advice would be appreciated, if any of you know about this kind of techie type thing.

There's no point in spending extra for any 4K accessory if your TV can't display the picture in 4K. You also don't need to buy an Amazon product because you watch Prime.

I've used Roku (and use it for Amazon prime) and Firestick (and used it for amazon prime).
Here is the family of Firesticks.
buy the least expensive one.
OR
Buy the least expensive Roku stick.

The more expensive ones will give you a better picture if you had a better tv. The middle and higher ones will let you change volume at the remote (instead of your tv remote).
Buy whatever you decide (roku or fire) when it goes on special at Amazon or where ever you usually buy them.
Amazon is having Big Deal Days Oct 7th and will probably have the firestick on special for $10 off.
Roku for $20 at Walmart now. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Roku-Streamer/16982615221?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0

Oh, I know. I could also get a Roku or some other device. But I've been doing a lot of reading on different devices and I've kind of settled on the Fire stick.

Thanks so much for the info!

Thing is, though, my TV goes out of support on the 30th of September. So I'll need to buy something before then.

That'll do the trick. Enjoy!
I hope so :)

I was thinking hmmmm, should I just go ahead and spend the money and buy a new TV? But I really can't afford it and I don't want to run up a credit card just for that. So I'm hoping the stick will do the trick.

I wouldn't run up a credit card for any home entertainment product. It took me years to be debt free, so there is nothing I want to watch that I'd go into debt for. But, everyone has their own priorities.

No, I totally get that and agree. In my 20's, I destroyed my credit by being careless. It took me more than 20 years to repair my credit. I now have a credit score of over 800. And I'm trying my best to keep it that way.

I do use my credit cards for some things. But I try to pay them down or completely off before I use them again. Unlike, in my careless days, I would just charge charge charge until I maxed myself out and got behind on payments and... yeah. We all know what that does to credit ratings. I'm in good standing now and don't want to screw it up.

My credit got trashed around 2006... by cancer. I made my payments, but if you charge a lot of medical expenses on credit cards, the banks cut you off and jack your interest rates. I guess they want to make as much money as possible before you die.

Yep. That they do. Everything boils down to the almighty dollar and that's all they care about.
