Are special diets (not the medically necessary type for things like allergies or diabetes etc) enhancing our joy of life or hindering it?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

I think that part of the reason we started cooking food is the wonderful smells of cooked meat and some veg. We could have learned about those smells from forest fires and brush fires. I read that chimpanzees sometimes use fire to roast nuts. I'm also going to guess that those Australian kestrels and fire hawks that intentionally set fires to drive out prey, sometimes eat some of that prey that got accidentally cooked.

People (aka companies) place far too much emphasis on food and health. Hell one week we are told to eat lots of potatoes, the next week someone jumps and down and tells us they are bad for us just as an example.

People tell us that organic stuff is better for us than non organic ... have never eaten (nor ever will) organbic stuff and I am very fit and healthy living on hamburgers, chicken, and fish along with pasta and pizzas.

So far as I can tell, the ONLY people whose "lifestyles" are effected by their diets and what they eat are those who spend all their time worrying about their dietary habits and what they eat. Eat what you want and say to hell with the so called experts. Get out into the fresh air and walk around a bit, unless you live some where like NYC where it doesn't matter what you eat - if the food doesn't get you the air will ......... :) :)

Agree with this.

I used to obsess over every single little thing I put into my body. Not just the type of food, but the amount. I weighed and measured everything. Granted, I was trying to lose weight at the time, but it became habit and a normal part of my life, even beyond the weight loss. But was I happy? No. I was miserable. Until I started relaxing a little bit. Now I eat pretty much what I want (I don't go crazy with junk food) whenever I'm hungry. And, as I've gotten older, and much slower, I don't require the calories that I used to. Therefore I don't eat as much as I did, say, 10 years ago. Some days I'm not very hungry at all.

But when I was obsessing over food, I would say it was "hindering" my way of life. Relaxing and not constantly worrying about what I eat and how much (since I don't really eat a whole lot anyway) has enhanced my joy of life when it comes to food.
