I like pepper and I very rarely add salt. Infact I have Chinese food for lunch almost every day. (its really cheap and somewhat healthy). And I ask for no MSG, no salt and extra spicy.

DS, I am extremely jealous that you have Chinese food for lunch everyday. It is one of my favorite types of food. But be careful sometimes it isn't always as healthy as you think depending on how it is cooked. I agree with the extra spicy, bring on the heat!!

Well, I agree Sierra. I get either the pork (VERY lean) with pea pods and waterchestnuts and slightly fried rice (I dont think if was fried... I think they just added flavor.... its not at all greasy) or I will get the vegi mix (expensive mushrooms with other nice stuff in a garlic sauce) and fried rice. All this and a fortune cookie and soda for $3.95!!!!!!

I'm not... and one of my pet peeves is people that are.

I just hate cooking for someone and then having them salt and pepper my meal before they taste it.
UGH!

Much worse than watching someone S&P their food is dumping catsup all over and filet or prime rib roast.

Yep, I'd have to agree with you.

I had a bad experience with salt many years ago, and since have had a sensitivity to it. However, I've also learned that it's not so much the salt that bothers me, as it is the iodine in iodized salt that sets me off.

I always salt my food while it's cooking, and I always taste it while I'm seasoning it, to make sure that it's just right.

Sometimes, I will add extra black pepper once it hits that table. That's just me. Usually on some soups and stews.

My DW refuses to use any salt in her cooking, saying that her mother can't eat it. Her mother doesn't eat over here that much any more, but my DW still won't season her food. I usually have to add some salt to it, just to make it taste good, but I always taste it first, add a little , stir it, taste it, add a little more if needed, etc.

My MIL will usually accept of plate of my DW's food, and then ask for the salt and pepper.

I was taught in school that when you salt food while it's cooking, you don't use near as much salt to achieve a certain level of taste as you would if you salted the food after it's finished cooking and had cooled down. I think it's because the salt dissolves easier into hot food. If my DW would accept that philosophy, I think she and my MIL would realize that they can meet at a happy "middle ground" on the salt issue.

i always taste first. everyonce in awhile i'll sprinkle on a little salt (not alot... high blood pressure).
9 times out of 10 i add pepper though

I automatically reach for the pepper grinder, nothing can have too much pepper especially scrambled eggs/omelets.

My girlfriend hated pepper when we started going out, but since I make all the meals I started hiding pepper where she couldn't see it. Now she has grown to like a small amount of it...but she still calls me pepper freak since my food is black most of the time :P.

I taste first. I regretted doing that at my in-laws the other night too! My MIL didn't season anything while cooking it. Have you ever tried to choke down a fork full of black eyed peas without any salt or pepper? UGH!!
