I always knew that a blue whale's song could be heard for distances (one sources says 1000's of miles). What I did not know was that it registers 188 decibels. Human hearing can be damaged at 120 to 130 dB (a jet is around 140 depending).
A blue whale's heart weighs in at around 400 lbs and can be heard to beat up to 2 miles away. When diving to great depths can be as low as 2 beats per minute. On the surface it is around 25 to 37 bpm (a human's average is 60 to 100).
Maybe not new to some of you, but it is/was for me.
My lesson for today.
Exam next week.
