Digging thru my cookbook assets, I had a thought...

Would there been any appetite amongst members of the forum for having one recipe each week that we all attempt and share our experiences with?

Like a book club but with food recipes.

Yeah, so like a book club, we all cook the same recipe and share our experiences, and we cook a different recipe each week.

I like the idea at a glance. I think it may be better once a month due to schedules and busy lives that need wiggle room. Also, a recipe should have a vegetarian option for those who are vegetarian. But all in all, it sounds fun. I'd likely be willing to participate.

One suggestion is to stay with seasonal ideas and ingredients, and to limit having to purchase a many specialty ingredients or equipment.

It sounds like a fun idea, but whether or not I could make the recipe would depend if I have all the ingredients on hand. I'm on a very tight budget and wouldn't be able to run to the store for specific stuff.

I agree with Kathleen, once a month would be best.

ok...

so, shall we start?

Bit of a cheat as I made this last night, but ostensibly only 4 readily available ingredients.

You can substitute the fillet of beef for another cut or protein of your choice.

I have no idea what a 'chafing dish' is...

Keep in mind our vegetarians. Is there a Vegetarian option? And let's make something that you have not yet made.

How about something like spaghetti with tomatoes? People could add what they wanted to their own dishes. Or did you want a specific recipe? I feel like people would then just follow the recipe.

For me, it is the end of July and I am being flooded with tomatoes. I love pasta. But....honestly people could sub in zoodles....or they could add feta....or a meat....or other veggies. I'd be interested what people would do with the start of spaghetti and tomatoes....and I really don't think we would get just marinara sauces.... Thoughts?

Fair points...

Yes, I was thinking specific recipes...

To be honest, I completely did not follow that recipe, just used it as a baseline - I rendered pancetta lardons, cooked the sliced onions in with the lardons and their fat, no butter, didn't remove the onions before cooking the mushrooms just threw them in with the lardons and onions, and I added paprika, tomato puree, anchovy sauce, and mustard to the sour cream, also I used Galician pork abanico instead of beef fillet, and I served with tagliatelle...

I think the above recipe is perfectly doable as vegetarian, maybe tofu, maybe just mushrooms and onions?

I'm happy to go with another recipe, just thought this was relatively easy and classic, and a bit of a time capsule.

A Chafing Dish is a dish kept in a water bath which is kept warm for at the table to serve.
