We went out to our favorite high end Italian restaurant. It's a once or twice a year thing because we go all out and it's not inexpensive. First, the wine, and we also ended up ordering and drinking 2 bottles of San Pellegrino water.

Antipasti was a special 0f braised octopus with olives, capers, teardrop peppers over arugula, and a cold cut plate of bresaola, prosciutto, speck, salami and mortadella, with a bread basket of a Tuscan bread, grissini and cracker bread.

Pasta course was speck and porcini with a thyme and butter sauce over freshly made linguini. We shared an order of that.

Main was a wild boar ragu with a black truffle polenta cake. We ended up taking most of that home because we both felt so full.

I REALLY wanted dessert so we had tirmisu and double espressos. Complimentary limoncello after.

WOW....that looks and sounds wonderful Med! Actually there's nowhere around here to dine like that and I'm not interested in traveling more than 60 miles for fine dining in Los Angeles. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. :yum:

Simple fare here tonight with my version of American Goulash with Penne instead of Elbow. Tasty one pot meal, with lots of leftovers for lunches, served with loaded salads.

Kay, look around. This is a little hole in the wall place, about 15 tables, in a small suburb of Fort Lauderdale. I found it just by chance. It usually takes at least a week to 10 days, sometimes 2 weeks, to get reservations as they are usually booked solid.

SO had egg and lemon soup again while I had spaghetti carbonara and a glass of Sauvignon blanc.

I just had a salad and a hamburger patty. But did something new for me. Crisped up some extra-firm tofu cubes in olive oil then added generous pour of soy sauce which cooked down a lot in the little cast iron pan. Cooked the ground beef patty in the olive oil - soy syrup.

Pretty darn good for low-cal bachelor fare, I thought.

Didn't someone here, maybe Larry or Pepperhead, say there was a way to use Google maps to help locate out of the way little restos?

I'm pretty much recovered from the migraine today, but the dishes need washing (I got way behind during migraine and postdrome) and I certainly didn't have spoons to do both. So, we ordered out. I had a cobb salad and Stirling had fish and chips.

I was talking about it in the conversation about exotic breads to try out. Ate injera for the first time at Derae restaurant. View from the street, in the highly unlikely event you found yourself on that street.

We went out to dinner at a local German restaurant last night. My FIL had red lentil soup and a pork schnitzel sandwich with German potato salad. I had a pork schnitzel dinner with German potato salad and späetzle with mushroom gravy - I know, double carbs, but they were so good! [emoji16] DH had grilled pork with sauerkraut and a Caesar salad. We were too full for dessert.

I had tossed some family-style pork ribs in the slow cooker the other day. I added some of that to the leftover chili and made tacos for Dad, a taco salad for me (in a bowl, not the fried/baked tortilla). Hopefully he will finish the chili for lunch so I can make Henningsvaer Fiskesuppe for next week's soup. Ancestors owned the fish-processing plant in Henningsvaer, so this a recipe that has been in the family for eons. I have walleye stock my cousin and I made at the end of "cabin season" using the walleye carcasses, including the heads and eyes, that I will thaw and use as the base. I always want to add diced potatoes, but I'm not allowed. The recipe only has onion, fish (cod, although I have made it with other white fish--the processing plant was for cod), carrots, and leeks, no celery, no potatoes.

Is that really the smiley you meant to use? I would have expected a happy looking smiley. And that food looks really, really yummy.
