I think more on the lines that keeping it 3 meals like this thread does is easier because not everyone's food schedules are the same and there are a lot of different time zones going on here. And I tend to not eat my first meal until 4pm, but it's technically breakfast (breaking the fast) but it isn't usually breakfast food. It could be eggs or waffles (not usually), but more likely it's going to be leftovers of something I had for dinner the day before or even a few days before. Or a slice of leftover pizza from the freezer (that's a common one). Today it was chicken noodle soup. I call it breakfast but might get called out on that one since it's not breakfast food and not eaten before 10a.m. IDK.

I still wish we had just an ongoing monthly "what did you eat today" thread so people who don't log in daily could chime in without having to search, and it wouldn't have to be in any particular chronological order, plus it would be easier for someone who was not only in a different time zone but perhaps in a part of the world where it's a different day (here's looking at @Shining Wizard and @Rascal). I was thinking about starting one and then anyone who wanted to keep to restarting a new dinner thread for those of us in North America could do so, and it wouldn't be a big deal if someone posted a meal in two different places, would it?
I broached the subject of different days and time zones years ago and the consensus was that it was just easier to post on the same day as you eat, without regard to the actual date or time where you are.
So when I post in Today’s Menu it’s from the day later according to the date

I too found it unclear, probably obvious if you’re from that time zone but it felt like it was a bit all over the place and I wasn’t sure where to post so ultimately I jsut didn’t.
A consensus is a great thing to have but perhaps if you want people from different time zones to join in then something that accommodates everyone more easily might be worth a second look?

Lot’s of folks nowadays aren’t restricted by whether they have breakfast for dinner or dinner at lunch time. The waters get a bit muddied.
My toastie was actually brunch time which is yet another category.

It also feels like there is a bit of waiting for someone else to post the next date if someone does there’s a sudden influx of pics and chat which is nice to see.

The main meal of the day is quite often the most interesting one (to other foodies at any rate), that’s kinda why I originally put ‘lunch/dinner’ because when people have their main feed of the day can be either.

Now I’m not sure if I should continue to post that, I’m new here and I don’t want to p*ss anyone off but I’m in the unfortunate position of being one of the ones who hits the next date first.

This for sure! I've come in with pics of a meal and looked around to see if someone already started it, but don't always feel like being the opener. Also a few times I've seen 2 different people start a daily dinner thread on the same date.

Just having a "What did you cook or eat today in February 2026" would leave it pretty loose and I might post 3 meals in there plus some bread or cupcakes on a given day if I'm feeling energetic. And then I won't have to look for the daily thread or start one myself.

I will post meals in a few different threads if they're already started. I don't see why anyone would object.

I’m happy to try that out here.
I know it does work well on another forum.

I am also more likely to post other thing’s I’ve cooked if it’s easy to do in one spot (naturally lazy or a hesitance to be someone who posts, posts, posts, posts? 😂).
I haven’t posted pics of the bread I baked, some scones I made or some noodle soup because they didn’t really fit the thread or the date 🤷‍♀️

I'm gonna start one on February 1st then. It doesn't mean there can't be a dinner thread too, but like I've said before, my food choices for various meals can be wacky. But I'm actually going to be out of town that date so if you want to start it because I might not eat breakfast until midday, please do.

Yep, there's that, too. I think there is a bread thread somewhere but sometimes it's a pain to search around to find the right place to post something.

You.. a propensity to be wacky? I never knew 😉 😂

My version of subgum chicken chow mein.

Breakfast - SPAM, egg and Meunster cheese breakfast sandwich.

Lunch - I skiped lunch.

Supper -Havarti cheeseburger with shredded lettuce and cholpoltle ranch dressing (it looks like thousand island, but it bites!), macaroni & cheese, and Pepsi zero sugar.

I'll be having chili and beer at the bar around 4:15 and that will be breakfast. I'll take a few photos if I remember.

As to the monthly/weekly posts, I generally fall off of posting on them. Basically, I post on the date (and do not care if a thread is started for the following day from me...just post on your day.) When threads grow too long, I see that I've posted and eventually move away from it. That is just me. I've seen this method on other sites, and will start posting on them, but then I find that I post less and less and less...and then not at all. I don't feel a need to take a photo. I don't feel a need to post off-dates. The date keeps me more current and it does not fall off my radar. Of course, this is simply me.

👍🏻 100% same here - I just lose interest. Starts to feel like facebook. Everything gets jumbled into one slop pail.
That is why there are specific categories. Makes it more interesting and cleaner. And when things do go off the rails digressing it is only that particular thread.
This is post #21 - there have only been 7/8 food related posts so far.

I don't know how things go on Facebook because I am not on Facebook. I think I will still give the monthly food posting a try for February, though, and whoever wants to post in it can, and if it doesn't go over well it won't be repeated into March.

It works well elsewhere but if theres not an interest in doing it then it won’t work.

I think the current arrangement probably suits people in the US but would be easier for people who are in a different time zone and that’s got to be worth a try?

If people lost interest in long threads then does that mean the breakfast and lunch threads that I was pointed in the direction of earlier aren’t much cop?

It's like right now I'm at a bar and took some pics, but don't feel like starting a thread.
